2. Psychology. the reversion of a person to an earlier stage or way of thinking, feeling, or acting, as a way of trying to escape difficult problems by assuming the characteristics of childhood: »

3. Biology. the reversion of offspring to a less developed state or form or to an average type, such as a tendency of children of tall parents to be shorter than their parents.
